Year 5

A Local Walk

29  Feb  2016

In year 5 we have been learning about our local area. Historian, and local expert, Jane Dore took us back in time to investigate how Durrington began. We also went on an intrepid expedition up Salvington Hill to experience the wonder of the magnificanet windmill and then on into the countryside.

The children have then used all of their incredible knowledge and skill to produce persuasive information leaflets for the area. Each pupil was able to choose whom they write for; day visitors; holidaying families and senior citizens. They even produced information for families considering moving to the area! This meant that the content of each leaflet would have a slightly different purpose, which demonstrates the children really understood their audience.

As a consequence the Durrington Library ( which is the building in front of the Junior School) has been delighted to display a selection from the four year 5 classes. They will be on display, (as you enter the building on the right) until the Easter break. We do hope you will take time to read , admire and hopefully find out more about our marvellous town!

We are very proud of their wonderful work.
