Year 2 (and Giraffe Class) celebrated World Maths Day today. We saw some amazing maths hats and the children had a day filled with fun maths activities, which will continue tomorrow.
The classrooms smelled of warm flapjacks as the children weighed the ingredients before cooking, and another group was busy making boxes to carry home their baking. Other activities included shape printing, shape hunts and constructing 3D shapes from spaghetti (uncooked thankfully!).
Here is some of the fun we had:
What an exciting start to the new school year Years 1 and 2 have had.
A mysterious egg has appeared in our classrooms.
Where did it come from?
How did it get into our classroom?
What is inside the egg?
We have shared our ideas about these questions. In Science, we have found out some of the animals that come from eggs. We have drawn pictures of what we think might be in the egg and written descriptions of the “creature”. We have also started reading a book called “The Egg” by M.P. Robertson.
Now we are waiting for the egg to hatch!!!
Years 1 and 2 had an amazing morning on Thursday 30th November 2017. They had a visit from Punch and Judy!
They were shown a range of puppets, including glove puppets and marionette.
They watched the Punch and Judy Show and this involved a great deal of participation. The children really enjoyed themselves!
After the show the children were able to have a close look at the puppets

Years 1 and 2 went on a trip to the beach.
As part of our topic, “A Seaside Town”, we went to find out the features that a seaside town has.
We started at the Pavilion and began to draw a map of what we could see.
We saw many different things.
We went on the pier and saw pictures of how the pier had been destroyed by a storm and a fire in the past. We also explored the beach.
