Sports Catch Up - Autumn Term

03  Nov  2017

During the last half term we have had a lot more sporting events than just the main CV Football and Netball leagues. It all started will a KS2 Boccia tournament on the 4th of October. The event was hosted here at the school during school hours. Lots of other schools came to the event and there ended up being twelve different teams. After a very competitive and enjoyable morning Durrington managed to come 4th overall, this was a great result for all the children involved.

Only a few days later on the 9th of October we were involved in another event, the KS1 Rugby Workshop. This event was a different sort of event as it was a workshop so some very lucky children were able to make their way to Thomas a Becket Junior school to learn lots of new skills in a sport that they wouldn’t have had much chance to play at their age. All the children who went had a great time and continued to improve their skills.

On the 11th of October we held the second Boccia tournament at the school, this time it was the KS1’s turn. The same number of teams came to the event but this time Durrington were able to get into the medal places and get 3rd place, which was a great result especially when the children involved were only shown how to play the game the Friday before the event!

Just a day later on the 12th of October the school were back in action, this time at the YR 3/4 Netball festival. The children who went to the event at Worthing College were able to get the chance to play against four different school teams in a non-competitive format to gain more experience of Netball, hopefully for when they will be playing in the school Leagues for Durrington when they are older.

We move on to Monday the 16th of October when it we our KS2 teams turn to play Rugby. This time it was a tag rugby festival. As it was a festival it was different to the KS1 event, the children played lots of different games against different schools to get more experience in playing Rugby. All the children played really well and all seemed to really enjoy themselves.

Well Done to all the children involved in these events and thank you to the parents for their help during these events.
