We have been so busy with lots of activities! Over this last two weeks we have been reading the fairy tale ‘Hansel and Gretel, and a lovely story called ‘Whatever next!’
In the Discovery Room we have used lots of coloured play dough to make sweets, gingerbread men and cakes of all varieties! We decorated them and put them carefully into cake cases. We made lollipops using lots of different shapes and made our own patterns to decorate them!
In the Maths Room we weighed different amounts and sizes of pebbles, just like the ones Hansel dropped in the forest. It was a good idea because he and Gretel could return home when they found themselves lost in the forest! When we put them in the scales we could explore how they go up and down depending on size and numbers of pebbles! We could see how heavy and light they were when we added more or took some away! Some were much heavier than others!
We all acted out the story in our classrooms and took turns to be the different characters. In the Literacy Room we made our own story maps, telling the story through pictures and writing down letters we have learned for different parts of the story. There were so many details to add!
We really enjoyed the story ‘Whatever Next?’ by the author Jill Murphy! Teddy looked through the window at night time and saw the moon! He decided to go on an adventure. He found lots of things in his house to make a rocket so he could fly up into space for a picnic on the moon! He even used his mummy’s colander as a space helmet! Luckily he was back in time for his bath before bedtime!
We talked about how teddy felt when he went up through the chimney and up into space! We thought of lots of exciting words to describe his feelings, and the sounds his rocket must have made! We have built space ships with boxes, made a space suit for teddy using different materials and we’ve loved role-playing this story!
Can you believe we have now been in school for nearly half a term! We have learned so much!
