Hello again from Reception!
Just to say a very BIG THANK YOU to all those parents of our Reception children for attending our Welcome Meeting! We hope that you gained some insight into the everyday structure of a typical day in school and the learning that takes place.
The children are now having daily phonics during the morning session and each day they have learned a different letter and the sound it makes. We are sure they have shared this with you at home and we are delighted already with the progress they have made!
This week we have begun our topic for this term ‘Traditional Fairy Tales’, starting with ‘The Magic Porridge Pot!’ We have been reading and writing the spell which makes our magic pot cook the porridge, thank goodness we knew what to say to make it stop! In the story the pot doesn’t stop cooking and the porridge flows all through the houses and town! We thought about how it would feel to walk in the hot, sticky porridge and practised moving to music pretending to be walking in it!
In the Discovery Room we mixed porridge oats with water and thought of words to describe the texture.
In the Maths Room we filled porridge oats into bags and talked about how heavy or light they were!
We can’t wait to find out what is on the ‘menu’ for next week in Reception!
Watch this space!
