Wow! What happened to the teachers in the reception classes after the half-term holiday!?..... The bell rang, we lined up outside our classrooms and the doors opened! No teachers! A cow opened the door in Mrs. Naish's class! A rabbit in Miss Baker's and a sheep in Mrs. Bourne's! There were even more animals inside! A pig, more cows and a chicken! Well, it was a hen really, because it made the most brilliant clucking sound!
We knew we were in for a fun day! The 'farm animals' asked us what we knew about farms? Later they asked us what we would like to find out about farms. We looked at books about farms, pictures of animals that live on a farm and where our food comes from! We even got to design and make our own animal headbands so that we could be animals for the day!
We made our own farm maps in groups and labelled the different things that could be found on the farm!
It got even better after lunch. It was such a lovely sunny day, we got to wear our head bands, move like the animals and played games in the playground together! We ended doing a giant conga all the way around the playground singing 'Old McDonald had a farm' and moving like the animals we'd chosen to be! The chicken did a brilliant dance, it's wings were flapping and it's head moved forwards, backwards and up and down! It made a lot of noise too!
We can't wait to go on our farm trip, especially to meet the animals again! They are even going to take us on a tractor ride around their fields!
