Welcome to Year 3
Welcome to the first year in Junior School. We have three classes in Year 3 which are all named after fascinating stone age animals - Tiger, Bear and Mammoth.
Bear Class Teachers: Mrs Pearce
Mammoth Class Teacher: Miss Bailey
Tiger Class Teacher: Mr Squire
Year 3 LSAs: Mrs Wild, Mrs Brown and Miss Jackson
.
Our classrooms are situated on the far side of the library in the junior school providing a lovely view of either the school field or the Twitten field. We enter our classrooms through the back doors.
Our school day is slightly different to the infant school. We start our day when the classroom doors open at 8:45am. Break time is 10:25am – 10:40am and lunchtime is a little later, starting at 12:25pm and finishing at 1:10pm. Our school day ends at 3:15pm when we go to the junior playground to meet parents and carers when we are dismissed.
Everyday, you will need your school bag, reading folder with reading books and reading record, your drinks bottle and your lunch (unless you are having hot school lunch). We do not get fruit provided in the junior school, so don’t forget to bring your healthy snack, e.g. a piece of fruit or vegetables, for break time too.
In Year 3, we have a fantastic year filled with learning and fun ahead! Our history and geography topics alternate each half term, covering exciting themes like:
History – From Stone to Steel: A Journey Through Prehistoric Times
This exploration allows our children to discover what life was like for our prehistoric ancestors. They’ll learn about fascinating technological and cultural changes as people transitioned from stone tools to bronze and eventually iron. Through interactive activities, pupils will develop a deeper understanding of how these advancements shaped human history and laid the groundwork for the world we know today!
Geography - Around the World
We’ll be dusting off our globes and compasses to explore the continents, seas, and oceans. Our young geographers will dive into topics like tropics and climate zones, gaining a better understanding of our planet. We will compare the geography of the UK, Italy, and North America, sparking curiosity about different cultures and environments and ensuring a love for learning about the world around them.
This year marks the beginning of our adventure through Key Stage Two, where our focus is on fostering a love for learning while enhancing pupils' thinking skills. Most importantly, in Year 3, we are dedicated to developing our pupils’ independence and organisational skills through fun exploration and self-improvement, empowering them to become life-long learners!
