Art and Design
At Durrington Infant and Durrington Junior School we believe that Art and Design has a significant and valuable role to play in the development of a pupil’s self-esteem and inter-personal skills and involves them in a continuous process of exploring their ideas, recording their experiences, and producing creative work.
We will raise the profile of Art and Design within our curriculum through focusing not just on the formal elements of Art and Design, teaching the skills and techniques, but also through providing enrichment activities that give children ownership by stimulating creativity and developing confidence. Children will learn that Art and Design is fun, exciting, inspiring, and imaginative and that there are no rights and wrongs in the work produced.
Our curriculum provides continuity and progression which develops children’s curiosity and imagination through a range of visual, tactile and sensory activities that help them to explore the world first hand and to develop an increasing ability to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art forms, enabling children to reach their full potential. Children will develop an understanding of how both Art and Design reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity, diversity and wealth of our nation.
