Year 6

Mystical Mexicolore & Proficient Popatok!

17  Feb  2017

Yesterday we had a visit from Mexicolore who used music, dance, drama, costumes, artefacts, crafts, slides and all sorts to bring Mexican history and culture alive for us! We learnt about the Aztecs and Maya through an illustrated talk, workshop and full-scale theatrical performance. In a single morning our current topic of the Maya & Aztecs were brought to life in a way no book or static exhibition possibly could.

By the afternoon, our heads full of fascinating facts, we took part in a House Popatok Tournament. This game challenged us to score goals in held up hoops using only knees, hips or elbows! In the real Aztec/Mayan version the goals would have been much higher and the ball (made of rubber) would only just fit through. At least the losing team weren't sacrificed this time! A special well done to Cissbury, who won the tournament, with runners-up Highdown just one point away!

A great day had by all and a 'Happy Half Term' from the Year 6 team...
