Year 6 Football CV League Round Up

16  Nov  2017

On the 7th of November the Durrington Junior School Year 6 Football Team had the next stage of their CV League needing to Win at least 2 of the 3 games they had left to go through to the play offs. First game was Bramber, a bit of a nervous start saw Durrington go 1-0 down but as they started grow into the game and lose the nerves they became on top. A couple of good chances weren’t taken until Harry fired Durrington Level mid-way through the first half and only a couple of minutes later scored a brilliant free kick to win the game for us 2-1. With now a lot of belief the team moved onto the next game, West Park who was the other team near the top of the group. Again Durrington started a little slow giving a West Park player too much time on the edge of the Box meaning he was able to find the top corner with an excellent effort. Unfortunately for West Park this sparked Durrington into life. Harry scored an outstanding Volley to make the game level at half time and then scored straight after half time to make it 2-1 with an easy tap in after great work for Harvey. Durrington started to feel very solid in the game with Brandon and Alfie bossing the midfield and Michael and Jacob being very good in defence this gave freedom to Harry and Harvey up the pitch to create chances. Harvey was next to get on the scoresheet with a clever effort into the far left corner and the game with topped off with another fine Harry goal to end the game as 4-1 winners. The final game was to get 1st place in the group and with an excellent performance by Toby Taylor in the final game setting up 3 of our 5 goals we won the final game against Orchards B 5-0 with another Harry hat-trick and the other 2 goals being added Brandon and Harvey finishing the group as WINNERS!!

Next was the Semi-final against Orchards A. The whole game was a very even battle with both teams having chances and also defending brilliantly, Lewis being a great presence at the back for Durrington. One team were going to score first and it was Orchards who took the lead and came in at half time 1-0 up Durrington still believing they could get something from the game though started the second half very strong. Mid-way through the second half Alfie picked the ball up in the half way line and drove at the Orchards defence and then hit a powerful effort that the keeper could only play into Harry’s path to pass the ball into the net, 1-1. Durrington then having a few other chances to win the game unfortunately couldn’t take them. Orchards suddenly went up the other end and played an excellent bit of football creating a great chance but only for Mason to show his Goalkeeping level to keep out a chance everyone saw as a certain goal. The Whistle was blown for Full Time. The game went to extra time which was very even with Durrington having the best opportunity with Alfie just missing the post by an inch with a well struck free-kick. Onto Penalties we went. Harry scoring his to make it 1-0 Durrington, Orchards then score to make it 1-1 Mason getting very close to saving it. Alfie stepped up next and struck his Penalty too close to the keeper and it was saved. Mason getting close again to saving just couldn’t get a strong enough hand to Orchards second Penalty Orchards now winner 1-2. Brandon needing to score his penalty for us to stay in the game just lent back a little too much and sent his Penalty over the bar.

Well done to all the Team for getting this far and showing why you are the best football team Durrington Junior School have ever had. Orchards went on to win the final 5-0 which shows how well we did and anything can happen on penalties so keep your head up. We now go onto Shield Cup!
