Three Billy Goats Gruff

13  Jan  2017

This week in Reception we have listened to the tale of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff.’ We have had so much fun doing all the activities related to this story.

We all enjoyed drawing and painting pictures of the nasty ‘Troll’ who lived under the bridge! We shared the pictures we drew of the troll and talked about how we could make them even better than they already were! All we had to do was to look again at the picture and find things we may have left out! Once we added these the results were amazing!

In the Maths room we have been building bridges using the Construction toys and adding and taking away pictures of ‘Goats’ using a number line.

In the Literacy Room we have looked at lots of different pictures and ‘had a go’ at writing the words for each one! Some people even wrote a simple sentence! We listened carefully to the sounds we could hear in and thought carefully about the shapes of each letter before we wrote them down. Outside we used paints to practise writing our hotwords.

In the Discovery room we explored a variety of materials to make bridges. We wanted to test each one to see how strong they were, and see if they could take the weight of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We decided that the wooden blocks were the most suitable. The lego was good too but we wondered about other things which might crossed and been heavier than a goat! Some of us built bridges with paper and card but when we tested these they weren’t strong enough! If they had a river running under them the bridge would have collapsed and the goats would have got very wet!

Outside, everyone has had a brilliant time digging the new, fresh compost using the new forks, spades and sieves! We built bridges outside using the large wooden construction blocks and role-played the story by being ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ ourselves!

Can’t wait to find out what next week brings!
