An exciting new ‘Minibeast’topic has just begun in Reception!’
In the Discovery room we have a ‘Minibeast’ Investigation area, a ‘Bug Café’ in the Literacy room and a variety of ‘Minibeast Number, Shape and Space' activities in the Maths room.
This week ‘Snails’ have been our focus. We have our very own ‘Snail’ habitat which has provided endless observations by the children using our microscopes. We have learned all about the snail, how it moves, where it likes to live, and what it likes to eat. In the Literacy room we have been writing facts about the snail and labelling the different features. In the Maths room we have counted snails and added and subtracted these with different numbers within a group. We have recorded our findings, writing our number sentences using the correct mathematical sign.
In the Discovery room we have been learning about the famous artist Henri Matisse and looked carefully at his work entitled‘The Snail.’We have been creating our own work in his style, and have a lovely display in our classroom if you would like to view them! To make our week even more exciting we have just taken charge of a number of tiny caterpillars which we are going to watch grow over the next few weeks! We can’t wait for next week to investigate how much these have changed! We wonder what will happen next?! ….
We are also busy practising for our Sports Day and really hope you can be there! Please can we ask you to remind us to bring a sun hat, the forecast is very sunny for next week! Please would you also check that we have plimsolls for this, we’ve grown so much this year and some are too small!
