The summer term has begun in Reception and what a start!
The children were introduced to our new topic this term 'People who help us'.
We began by thinking about the people in the community who help us. As the children discussed their ideas with us we wrote them down. Little did we know the number one on their list was the 'Firefighter' and the fire brigade were about to pay us a visit! Not, of course because there was an emergency in school, the teacher's had arranged a visit that same afternoon!
What a wonderful experience for them when they turned up after lunch. They talked to us in our classrooms about their job and they even let us dress up in their uniform! We asked lots of questions and they told us all about the different emergencies they attend. The firefighters even brought their fire engine and we all had a turn at sitting inside and looking at all the instruments they had for their job. We were so lucky that they didn't get an emergency call otherwise they would have had to go! The really best bit was letting everyone have a go at squirting the water from the gigantic hose! It was very noisy and very powerful! It was a lovely sunny afternoon and it was fun to get a little bit wet from the water spray! Even the seagulls flew off the roof of the Garden Rooms when someone sprayed it a little too close!
We had a brilliant time and are busy writing letters to them to say 'Thank You' for visiting us. We are wondering what we will be learning about next week! Watch this space! ........
