Farm Topic

12  Jan  2018

Happy New Year 2018 from us all in Reception!

The children were eager to share their experiences with us all on return from the Christmas holiday! From what we heard they’ve had so much fun!

The teachers all dressed up as ‘farmers’ on the first day of our full week back in Reception. This provoked lots of questions from the children: ‘Why was Miss Champion wearing a funny hat?  Why were all the teachers wearing checked shirts and jeans? Why did they have straw in their pockets?

Together, we all sat down for a discussion and found out that our new topic was going to be ‘Down on the Farm.’ We were so excited, especially when we were told that we might even be going on our very first school trip to a real farm!’

Together, we did a ‘mind map’ about the farm. We talked about what we already knew about farms, whether we’d visited one before, and the things we would like to find out about a farm.

We sang lots of ‘farm’ songs and looked at some non-fiction books too. We learned that if you look at the contents page, it would have a list of all the things that we wanted to find out about, and give us the page number to find it, that way, we don’t have to read the whole book all at once, just enough to find the information we needed!

This week we have been learning about ‘pigs.’ We were very surprised to find out that is where bacon and ham comes from!

Can’t wait to find out what’s on the agenda for next week!
